Reindeer herders trail

On this, tour you'll get to enjoy one of the world's last untouched frontiers. Following reindeer herders’ footsteps, spend 4 days hiking in the arctic wilderness. Camping and staying in Herder huts on route, we’ll forage herbs and try to catch fish for dinner. We’ll pass through incredible landscapes, hills, valleys and fjord systems, with views across the Greenland Icecap. Then arriving at Isortoq we’ll experience life at Greenland’s only reindeer station - and enjoy hot showers and real beds! From the station we’ll head to a nearby outlet glacier, getting up onto the ice and exploring the ice formations.

itinerary

Day 1: fly into Narsarsuaq where you'll meet your guide. We’ll sail to our base camp, passing through incredible fjord systems and seeing icebergs up close.

Day 2-5: we hike through the wilderness, around 15 km per day - in the summer the days are long so we can take out time! Each evening we set up camp and cook together, as we hike we’ll keep an eye out for berries and herbs to add to our dinner. The area we’re traveling through is truly wild, we’ll look out for reindeer, muskox, seas eagles, arctic foxes, and arctic hares. On day 5 we’ll hike down into the station and celebrate with a feast and a comfortable bed!

Day 6: we spend the day at the station, where we can learn about reindeer farming, forage for arctic tea, learn knife carving, make an antler ornament, take a dip in the sea, row across a lake, or simply relax and read a book.

Day 7: after a relaxing breakfast we’ll hike out to a nearby glacial outlet. We’ll have a briefing on glacier safety and equipment and then find a route up onto the ice. The glacier front is changing each year so this is always an adventure! Once on the ice, we’ll explore the different ice formations, like moulins and crevasses and learn how they’re made.

Day 8: head to the airport and fly home!
